Shetland Sheep at Mountainspun Farm Jacksonville VT:
After raising several more "traditional breeds of sheep" and even some goats, including angora goats, I have settled on and Love the breed from Shetland. Intelligent, true survivalists, great mothers, frequently twin bearing, wonderful horns, great foragers, wonderful array of wool colors and even a blend of colors within a single fleece, Just spend time with the Shetlands on a regular basis and be amazed at the comradery that develops between Shepard and sheep!
Little lambs quickly learn who the Shepard is, following me and their mom to new pasture as I rotate their electronet for rotational grazing. I have a gal who finds her way out of the fencing almost daily. She knows the bottom line is not electrified, and with our hilly pasture crawls under a spot and finds her way out. When she is ready to go back in to her little lamb and the rest of the flock she shows up at my front door and Ba, bas till I come out and put her back in fence. The intelligence and comedy of this breed !
