AMERICAN SOLAR ENERGY SOCIETY (ASES)
SOLAR 2006 CONFERENCE IN DENVER, JULY 8 - 13:
"RENEWABLE ENERGY: KEY TO CLIMATE RECOVERY"
Climate change and the increasing instability of energy supplies are in the news more and more. In an effort to showcase Renewable Energy as the key to both Climate Recovery and Energy Independence, the American Solar Energy Society (www.ases.org) will hold its SOLAR 2006 Conference (www.solar2006.org), July 8-13 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in downtown Denver, Colorado (www.adamsmark.com/denver).
The ASES conference is America's largest and most prestigious annual gathering of sustainable energy professionals. Many prominent experts in the fields of renewable energy and climate change are scheduled to speak at SOLAR 2006:
• Dan Arvizu, Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, member of the National Science Board, and international renewable energy expert (www.nrel.gov/director);
• Dennis Dimick, Senior Editor of Environment & Technology for National Geographic magazine, and the driving force behind the magazine's coverage of climate change (http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/finaledit/0409);
• James Hansen, Director of Goddard Institute for Space Studies, NASA's top climate change scientist, and champion for climate change education (www.gsfc.nasa.gov/bios/Hansen.html);
• Denis Hayes, President of the Bullitt Foundation, Chairman of the Earth Day Network, and organizer of the original Earth Day (www.earthday.net/news/chairman.aspx);
• Marty Hoffert, NYU Physics Professor, and leading proponent of advanced solutions to climate change (http://physics.nyu.edu/preprint/hoffert.martin.99A.pdf);
• Frank Kreith, ASME Fellow, and a pioneer in solar engineering & heat transfer (www.asme.org/Governance/Honors/SocietyAwards/Frank_Kreith_Energy_Award.cfm);
• Robert Socolow, Co-Director of Princeton's Carbon Mitigation Initiative, and published author of climate change solutions (http://mae.princeton.edu/people/e9/socolow/profile.html);
• Franz Trieb, German Aerospace Center, international expert on large-scale solar thermal power plants, and project leader of "Concentrating Solar Power for the Mediterranean" (www.solarpaces.org/MED-CSP_05/MED-CSP_Executive_Summary_Final.pdf);
• Warren Washington, Chair of the National Science Board, Head of NCAR's Climate Change Research Section, and climate change modeling pioneer (www.cgd.ucar.edu/ccr/warren);
• Additional speakers to be announced.
Thousands of distinguished attendees from all over the world (leading scientists, engineers, architects, designers, policymakers, educators, utility representatives, and other renewable energy decision-makers) will also attend the conference. Thousands more are expected to visit the exhibition hall, forums, technical sessions, workshops, tours, and special events to network and learn more about renewable energy's crucial role in our future.
