St. Joseph, MO Sheep and Goat Auction Report for Thursday Nov 13, 2008

Receipts: 1005 Last Month: 872 Last Year: 846

Compared to last month, slaughter lambs sold 1.00-4.00 higher with
increased Holiday demand for the lighter weight fleshy lambs under 80 lbs.
Slaughter ewes sold 3.00-5.00 higher with slaughter kids trading 5.00-7.00
higher. A light test of slaughter nannies were steady to 5.00 higher,
slaughter billies were also lightly tested from 6.00-8.00 higher. Demand was
much improved for replacement quality nanny goats with several nice
consignments included. Supply included near 51 percent sheep and 49 percent
goats. Prices quoted per cwt unless otherwise noted. Note: The Sheep and
Goat Auction is held the 2nd Thursday of each Month, start time is at 6:00
p.m.

Slaughter Lambs: Choice and Prime 2-3 110-145 lbs 90.00-101.25, few
heavy wooled 82.00-87.00; 80-110 lbs 80.00-89.00; 55-80 lbs 85.00-97.50.

Feeder Lambs: Medium and Large 1-2 50-100 lbs 60.00-78.50.

Slaughter Ewes: Utility and Good 1-3 130-235 lbs 18.00-25.50, few heavy
wooled 15.00.

Slaughter Bucks: 190-295 lbs 15.00-20.00.

GOATS-

Slaughter Kids: Selection 1 45-75 lbs 95.00-102.00. Selection 2 45-80
lbs 89.00-98.00; few 80-100 lbs 74.00-85.00, few yearlings 45.00-66.00.

Compared to last month feeder lambs sold steady; slaughter lambs not
tested last month; slaughter ewes sold 7.00 lower; slaughter rams sold 1.00
higher on limited test. Billies traded 1.00 lower on a limited test,
nannies sold 5.00 higher, kids sold 4.00 higher and yearlings sold 5.00
lower; Demand moderate and supply light. Sheep made approximately 38
percent of the offering, 62 percent goats. Sheep are priced on a per
hundred weight basis, all goats are sold per head.

Slaughter lambs: Choice 2-3 110-135 lbs 80.00-85.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1-2 pkg 48 lbs 92.00; 62-68 lbs
93.00-96.00; 70-85 lbs 82.00-90.00; Fancy pkg 70 lbs 99.00.

Receipts: 343 last month: 489 year ago: 360

Compared to the last market date of Saturday Sep 27th all classes of
goats sold steady. No comparison available on sheep classes. Demand was
moderate for a moderate supply. Offerings were made up of 99 percent goats
and 1 percent sheep. This months supply had a above average percentage of
female goats from all ages marketed for slaughter. All goats and sheep
graded by MO Dept of Ag-USDA Graders and bought per cwt. based on in-weights
at the buying station. Next scheduled market date will be Saturday Nov 29th.
The Station will be open to accept goats from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.

Kids: Selection 1 45-60 lbs 103.00, 61-80 lbs 103.00. Selection 1-2 81 lbs
