Hi, My name is Rachelle. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We have 6 rescued horses, 2 ponies, 4 dogs, 4 cats, ducks and chickens, and 4 goats. We're trying to be self-sufficient around here. We're in the process of planting gardens. I'm learning all about everything. I like this site. Have a great day. Rachelle
Hi Rachelle,
I'm Erin. Welcome to the site, I like this site too... What kind of goats do you have? We had goats while I was growing up on my parents farm, they had Togenburgs and Alpines. Have fun looking around!
We have a nubian buck, a nubian doe and two little doelings, one is boer/saanen cross, the other is a boer/saanen/la mancha cross. They are so much fun. Every critter here keeps me busy and we have so many new baby birds, with more hens clutching too. I'm on foal watch. My rescued mare is at day 370, so I get to sleep in the barn. I'm busy but it's the good kind of busy. Speaking of... I have to go feed the doelings. Have a great day.

Hi Rachelle love the Wash state area my husbands family is from the twi city and spokane area. Love going up there especially when its so hot here in Texas, though now that we have more animals to take care of especially to milk its harder to do.
HI Sam,
This area is great, I'm by the Seattle area. I love it here, but don't like the rain. Every spring I start getting excited, the sun is finally out, with only occasional rain from June to Aug. By the end of Sept. the rain is back. At least it usually doesn't get too cold in the winter or burning hot in the summer. When we go anywhere (like family reunions every other year) my husband gets to stay home, work, do all the chores, and take care of all the animals too. He hates it, but he also likes having the place to himself. :) Thanks for the welcome. Have a great day.
Rachelle
Rachelle,
Sounds like you are having fun with all the baby animals. I miss having animals. We had to sell them when we moved (we are planning on getting some more soon though). I always had the job of bottlefeeding the sick or orphaned lambs, I loved it. I remember all the bottles and the early AM feedings. But it was still fun.... We have a bird that made her nest on our porch light right outside our door (Im not sure what kind it is). It has 4 little peeps in it. My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves looking in and seeing them... :-)
My family thinks I'm insane to have all the animals... They're the 'office yuppie' type of people and are stunned at how I turned out. LOL. I can't stand the office environment. I'm lucky that I can stay at home, not work, and still have my animals and being with them and taking care of them, watching the rescues get healthy enough to play... well, that's my paycheck. My kids, ages 7 & 15 love all the animals too. I have to tell them what ones they can 'help' with and what ones to stay away from... It's a great learning environment too. Have a great day.
Hello to the sight we have a very good time brousing and reading the notes. We have a daughter-in-law and three grandkids who live in Shelton Wa. and have been up to visit them several times. We raise merino, natural colored, lincoln, and southdown sheep,Angora goats and milk goats, along with three horses one is a Lipazan, one is Arbian and then a Premarin rescue mare from canada she is of draft crossing also have rabbits, chickens, Geese, and dogs, cats and any others that happen to want to call our place home!!We see your into the rescue animal envolment wonder of what type and from where just your local area or do you go else were to do your part!
Kathy, no I don't know of any alpaca dealers in this area. I've seen some advertised here and there, but don't know of anyone personally. I don't know if there are any registries for alpaca's but you could always try there. In the meantime I'll keep a look out for you.
Jeanne, I do my rescues mostly from Western WA. The futhest I've gone is over the pass and down to Enumclaw. I picked up the ponies in Olympia. Mostly it's local because the kids are in school, so we do pick ups during school hours. Right now two of the rescues are up for sale. People like to sugar coat it and say adoption, but really it's for sale, so that's how we say it. :) I've been so busy, with the new goats and babies and their problems... I still have no horse foal (day 396+), that rescued mare is determined to wait until June, just to spite me. :) We'll take in most types of animals, so far the horses seem to be arabians or arabian crosses (not sure how that worked out to be that way) and a mustang. We think the old man, DC, is an appaloosa cross, there's no way to know for certain, but we're fairly sure.
Well, we have tons of babies now. 5 baby goats, tons of baby chickens (more keep coming out of the 'woodwork'), baby ducks, and the quail have taken to bringing thier babies into the yard. The bald eagle roosting in our 'woods' has babies as well, we're not sure how many (didn't want to get too close) but we know there's at least one. It got a meal of one of our hens the other day. That's how we found the nest. We can stand outside and hear it, but couldn't figure out exactly where it was roosting at. Now we know, at the expense of a hen. I told it that it could take all the roosters ( I have about a dozen running around here and who knows how many of the chicks are roosters too) it wanted but it needed to leave the hens alone if it wanted more chicken to eat. Between that bird and the coyotes I may not have many chickens left by the end of the summer. The coyotes have gotten really bad and brave in the last couple of weeks. They come right into the yard now. I had to set up traps to keep it from laying under the kids swing set (10 feet from my front door!). Fish and Game says to shoot it if it comes back like that again. We'll see. I'd rather just scare them off.
Anyway, gotta run and feed the masses. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend! Let's all remember all those men and women who made sites like this possible (as well as many other privelages we all take for granted) and lost thier lives doing so. Have a great week.

I went to your website and it's really hard to read the blue printing against the multiple-gray background. You might want to change the blue to white so it's visible against that background, or change the background to lighter gray tones. I'm not sure if I like your site or not because I can't read too much of it. Sorry...
I don't know of any brokers in WA, but the best brokers I know are Sands and Paul Bellizzi of the Alpaca Mining Company at http://www.alpacamine.com/ I know Sands and Paul personally from when we lived in Northern California and owned 16 acres of land not too far from them and we were thinkiing about alpacas to breed.
I have 25 sheep, mainly Icelandic and Finnsheep, but I also have 5 male alpacas. I raise them all for fiber, but one alpaca is suitable for breeding a boy with a dark brown blanket with dark ivory belly and legs. I don't have any females and have no desire to own any...I hate the thought of losing babies, not only the crias, but the mom alpacas as well...seems like the mortality rate is too high for me to deal with...and I always cry when I lose my lambs, but I think I'd quit hving animals if I was losing both cris and moms.
Anyway, talk to Sands and Paul...they can help you out. Just tell them Jet asked you to contact them.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll change the text to a different color, so that you all can read it. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem...

Thank you for that info. Do you have any photos of your farm? Your stud sounds beautiful wish you were close. Where do you live? We live in Alaska. Do you spin? We do spin and are wanting to learn felting as well. We breed and sell the animals and their wool. I Have a small ranch store to sell other products. ( Just getting it together this year so its pretty hectic.) We have 26 llamas with the 2 new crias one due any day. We have 12 alpacas and 4 pregnant females due in july. I understand about the loss factor but really that goes with any animal or living thing. We have only lost 1 cria and his mother in 7 years of breeding. I dont think the mortality rate is high.? We pack the llamas (my husband)on hunting trips and use their wool as well. I did post some pics of the new crias in the photo gallery.
