Hello from Texas!

Submitted by Guest on April 27, 2006 - 8:28pm.

I just ran across this site on the internet. I don't see many things on farm web sites from the South. It seems most sites are primarily in heavy agriculture farming states like Iowa, PA,MO, Dakota's, and on East to Carolina. So, I just wanted to converse with other farm families around the nation, with a Texas accent~.

I have a lovely wife of 34 years,(school teacher) two children, both in College now.

I run a small family farm which has been in our family for well over 100 years. We farm a couple of hundred acres of wheat and run a Beefmaster cow/calf operation, some registered Beefmasters, some Registered Polled Beefmasters, and some 50-80%% Beefmasters commercials.

Besides running the small family farm/ranch, I have a small consulting company specializing in helping people start their own company/business from the ground up. (It helps offset my farming habits [losses]) My consulting practice works with small local independent oil and gas professionals, as well as many other individuals on a very broad range of small to large start-up companies and manufacturing. I also provide consulting for small rural towns/cities, to help in economic development for retaining local jobs in the community, etc.. This job requires a lot of travel and I love meeting new people and helping with any small farm or ranch community to better themselves with new business's and jobs for our young people.

I serve on many varied boards and like most of you, wear many hats to survive in this rural world of farming/ranching, trying to figure out how best to hang on from year to year, to the family farm.
Would enjoy hearing from others.

Hello J.C.
Welcome to the site! It is nice to hear from a Texan! Sounds like you do alot to help us farmers, thats great! It's getting harder to find good people helping people these days... I found this site not long ago as well, it looks like a really great site :-). I have been a small farmer for the past 10 years and I really enjoy it, I don't know why more people don't do it...

You should become a member so we will know it is you when you post.

Hi JC I am a South Texan

Hi JC

I am a South Texan near San Antonio, but I can't say I have the accent unless you count saying an't or y'all a lot hahaha actually I do start to drawl when I am around another Texan with the thick accent.

Your farm sounds great! So huge! Just about a Texas ranch size. We live on 15 acres we downsized from a 75 acre ranch about two years ago and dont regret it with better grass and water and facilitys.

Sounds like your really active with your community that is great! I wish I had more time but with the farm, household, & homeschooling I dont have much time to spare.

Take care see you on the boards

Sam
