Gasoline Prices

Gasoline Prices

Gasoline prices seem to keep rising and rising! I'm wondering how it's going to effect bigger farmers who rely on gas and oil so much. It seems like it's going to get to the point where shipping grains and livestock is going to be the biggest "cost" to farmers.

Hi Steve,

What I'm doing is starting a homestead to try to keep things local and self sufficient. Starting a small farm that doesn't rely too much on oil and gas prices is hard enough. It's gotta be hard on those that use such big machinery and truck their products.

I read an article the other day that talked about a guy that was riding his horse to town now to save money...

I heard on the news the other night that the pawn shops are getting more business with people selling to them cause they are trying to get gas money. I guess the upside on that is if you have the cash now and want stuff you know where to get it.

I feel for the larger farmers they need the gas so they have to get it no matter what the price they just got to keep out looking for the better bargains out there I guess. Anyone see that show that Discovery channel aired called "The Gas wars" it showed an example of what would happen to farmers if they cant get their goods off.

Sam

Hi Sam,

I didn't see "The Gas wars" but it sounds interesting. I'll have to check to see if they will be replaying it.

I heard news reports of people in CA running out of gas on the highways on purpose because if they do, they get 1 gallon of free gas!

Steve

Here we see more and more folks riding Mopeds.

pretty soon everyone will be using bicycles and skateboards.... wouldnt that be a funny sight... ;-)

I read in a paper the other day that livestock farming costs have increased 20% over the last 2 years. A large part of the increase is fuel costs for the bigger farmers.

This is just going to translate to higher prices at the grocery stores etc...

I'm hoping we don't get another big hurricane hitting the oil rigs in the gulf this year.

Steve

I don't know about anyone else but I'm glad that the fuel prices have come down a little bit the last couple weeks. It has helped a lot.

I still think it's odd when you think to yourself, "gas is cheap it's only $2.xx per gallon" ... When just a couple years ago we would scream at $2+ gas.
