Wyoming, Western Nebraska, and Western South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary
w/e October 11, 2008
Trade and movement moderate. Demand moderate to good. Prices mostly steady
on higher quality hay, weaker on lower quality hay. Comments have been made of
Western and Central Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle having short supply on
dairy type alfalfa. Some areas are forecasted to receive some rain and snow
this weekend, as temperatures cool off. Most areas are done with final
cuttings. With market trends falling, some are concerned what it will mean for
the hay markets come this fall and winter. All prices dollars per ton FOB stack
in medium to large square bales and rounds, unless otherwise noted. Horse hay
in small squares. Prices are from the most recent reported sales.
Eastern Wyoming
Alfalfa: Good-Premium 125.00-160.00; Fair 100.00-125.00; Utility 85.00; ground
and delivered 115.00-135.00. Oat Hay 90.00. Wheat Straw 60.00. Dehydrated
Alfalfa Pellets (17 percent protein) 179.00 delivered wholesale.
Central and Western Wyoming
Alfalfa: Supreme (far west Wyoming) 175.00-200.00. Premium 130.00-150.00,
small squares 140.00-175.00; Good 120.00-140.00; Fair 98.00. Alfalfa/Grass -
Premium 175.00; Fair 105.00-110.00. Alfalfa Cubes 130.00-165.00.
Western Nebraska
Alfalfa: Supreme 150.00-180.00; Premium 135.00-145.00, small squares 140.00;
Good 110.00-130.00; Fair 95.00-110.00; ground and delivered 105.00-130.00.
Wheat Straw 50.00-55.00.
Western South Dakota
Alfalfa: Premium 85.00-120.00; Good large rounds 75.00-90.00; Fair 65.00.
Alfalfa/Grass 3x3 100.00-110.00, for horses 95.00. Grass 85.00 delivered.
Oat Hay 75.00. Barley Hay 70.00. Crested Wheat Hay 65.00.
