Description:
Looking for livestock that is fun to own, easy to care for, and profitable - all on a small scale with limited acreage? Alpacas work for us!
- Smaller cousin of llamas, bred in the Andes mountains of South America for over 6,000 years for their luxurious fine & silky fleece. At about 100 to 200 lbs and 3 feet high at the withers (top of shoulder), alpacas yield 5 to 10+ lbs of fleece each year.
- Alpacas offer the widest range of natural fleece color - from true black to white, with shades of fawn, 'red', and brown. Different alpaca fleece types are wonderful for knitting, weaving, or felting.
- They respect fences, eat less than a typical sheep or goat - and cost less to feed than the family dog - and are generally easy to train. Shows feature fleeces (off the animal), halter classes, and obstacle courses.
Consider a 'fiber flock' of non-breeding alpacas (ususlly whethers/geldings) for a supply of wonderful fiber to spin or sell. Or, raise alpacas to sell to the growing market. Tax benefits can be excellent. We can help you figure out what level of investment is best for you - and help you get the most for your money.
Offering quality alpacas from top bloodlines. Fiber males $500.to $1,500. Herdsire prospects from $3,000. Breeding females from $10,000 to $25,000. www.alpacanation.com/intialpacas.asp
