Editorial Review: Amazon.com: Unwanted pregnancy might sound like a risky subject for slapstick comedy, but Knocked Up is from writer-director Judd Apatow--so we are in the hands of a man who likes to push things. And like Apatow's predecessor, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up is a shaggy crowd-pleaser, a comedy strewn with vulgarity but with a sweet heart at its center. A one-night stand between the utterly mismatched Ben (Seth Rogen, his first starring role) and Alison (Katherine Heigl) results in said pregnancy, and the two people reunite for mutual support--even though they barely know each other. Ben's a slob who lives with four other guys, all of whom share the same stunted approach to maturity; Alison is a new on-air personality at the E! channel. That these two eventually develop a shared understanding and affection is perhaps the movie's biggest stretch (some of the male-humor jokes amongst the guys are idiotic enough to test anybody's hope of civilizing them). Rogen and Heigl don't really jump off the screen, but, to be fair, the movie frequently needs them to play straight while the supporting cast cuts up. Virgin vets Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are around to supply some humor, as Alison's sister and brother-in-law, and the four idiots who live with Ben (Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Jason Siegel, and Martin Starr) are in their own zone of sophomoric bad taste. Still, by 40-Year-Old Virgin standards, this movie doesn't explode, and it sometimes feels ramshackle to the point of not being thought out. Apatow's indulgence of actors creates some fine moments (Paul Rudd seems to have most of them), but it can also make a movie feel flabby, and this one is overlong by the length of a belly. --Robert Horton Description: The writer and director of The 40-year-old Virgin delivers another a hilarious hit comedy! They say that opposites attract. Well, for slacker Ben (Seth Rogen) and career girl Alison (Katherine Heigl), that's certainly the case - at least for one intoxicated evening. Two months and several pregnancy tests later, Ben and Alison go through a hysterically funny, anxious and heartwarming journey that leads to huge laughs in the most outrageous comedy of the year! ![]() Rating: - Knocked up and knock down comedyI loved this movie. The energy, the characters, the story are very entertaining. This film shows how opposites attract and people can change. I love a story where people are going along doing their thing and then something happens that turns their world upside down and they are forced to deal with it. Is this movie stupid? Yes it is and the stupidity is brilliant. Knocked up is a delightful film. If you are looking for something to distract you and give you some laughs this is one you will want to see. Rating: - A great Apatow film. watch the outtakes for even more hilaritylets face it, Apatow, Rogan and the gang are all very talented and hilarious. sure the characters are almost always simplified to demonstrate a certain persona of ourselves, but that doesnt stop the movie's message from ringing clear and the trip to be an enjoyable, and funny, one. i doubt anyone is here reading this having not heard anything about the people involved in the flick, but if you enjoy the gang, then this is highly recommended. if you have never watch an apatow film, 40 yr old virgin is a better place to start (all his films are pretty much a 50/50 mix of his 2 television shows, "undeclared" and "freaks & geeks") one thing i must recommend to newbies and fans alike, watch the plethora of outtakes on the bluray release, there are some plot arcs and ongoing jokes that were completely cut from the movie that are just hilarious! Rating: - No nude scenes of HeiglThere are no nude scenes of Katherine Heigl. (She keeps her brassiere on when she has sex.) The only scene featuring nudity in which Heigl is present is a scene showing us Seth Rogen's nude butt. Rating: - I don't get how this is funnySorry, but even though i've never seen this movie, I can't, for the life of me, understand just how this is considered funny. Please explain to me how unplanned pregnancies are considered good entertainment. Tell me how being an idiot, when we live in an era when "protection" is easier than ever to obtain(and in some cases, is FREE), is considered entertaining. Sorry but this modern age of ours, when anything, even ignorance and retardation in everyday life, is considered fodder for humor, is nothing short of DISGUSTING. Sorry, but no stars here. ZERO. Rating: - Great Product...This item came exactly as described and shipped super fast. I'd recommend this seller and would do business with them again. | |
