Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - disappointed
I was so excited about trying this ice cream maker as I had read the reviews. I followed the directions exactly and when I went to freeze the mixture it never even started to thicken. I even tried running it a little longer. I used the recipe that came with the machine.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - LOVE IT - So good that we have three of these
My boyfriend bought one and since he loved it so much I bought two of these ice cream makers and love them.

PROS:

- Makes 2 quarts of good quality ice cream (sorbet, etc.) without all the preservatives in store bought ice cream. Just be sure to use the best ingredients to get the best results.

- Small recipe book with delicous and simple recipes is included with the unit.

- It's so easy to make - just keep the freezer bowl ready at all times and a few ingredients on hand, combine the ingredients and ice cream is usually mixed in 30 to 35 minutes.

- Clean-up is easy.

- Machine is so sleek and elegant looking.

- The cord fits inside the bottom of the unit for compact storage.

- To us the unit is quieter than a blender or mixer; so we are surprised about the noise level other users find loud.

CONS (they don't bother me but they might bother you):

- You'll be paying more for the ingredients to make ice cream at home than you can get on sale in the supermarket. However, I prefer this because then I know what's in the product.

- You really should make the ice cream at least 3-4 hours in advance of eating it because only a small amount at the bottom of the bowl is frozen enough to eat; the rest is like a slush or milkshake until frozen in the freezer. As soon as I get one of those silicone circular or square pot holders, I'm going to cover the "ingredients opening" in the top of the unit to see if this keeps the cold air in. However, Cuisinart said it's unlikely to make a difference (but it's worth a try). I suspect everyone is eating very soft ice cream if they don't freeze it first since after many batches not one came out frozen. I am afraid to use partially frozen ingredients in the unit because I feel it might break the plastic mixer piece. However, the colder the ingredients the firmer the end result should be. I expected this, however, so I'm not disappointed at all. I usually freeze the ice cream overnight before serving to get it to the consistency of what you see in the supermarket.

We love our three Cuinsart ice cream makers!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - a little loud
This is a quality made product that I wish was quieter. In my small apartment it just wont work. I even put it in my other room with the door closed but still could hear it running. I had to send it back, but I wanted it to work for me. I guess I will wait for a smaller, quieter model.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very Good Product
The Cuisinart ICE-30BC works as advertised. I bought based on a review of ice cream makers in the Wall Street Journal, which rated this maker the best of five "intermediate" products.

My wife was skeptical of the product, but after the very first use she was sold. Its very easy, takes no more than five minutes to put the ingredients together. As others have noted, the core has to be frozen for a day before, so you can't quite make batch after batch. However, we have found that if you clean/wash it immediately, you can return it to the freezer and be prepared to go again in as little as four hours.

The product is noisy, but not overly so. We've set it up to be used on top of our freezer, which is located in our garage. We mix materiels, carry out there turn it on, and let it go. We set a timer so as not to forget, so the noise isn't a problem.

I'm sure there'll be cases where I'll buy store made ice cream again. You generally don't save money using the thing...but it makes better than store bought ice cream.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Yummy!
I've made dark chocolate sorbet twice, and dark, tangy frozen yoghurt once. This machine is great! You put your chilled ingredients in and turn it on and come back in half an hour and VOILA! It's only drawback is that it's noisy so turn it on when you don't have to be in the kitchen.
